Einladung zum Archäologischen Kolloquium am 15. Juni 2026

Wir laden Sie hiermit herzlich zum ersten Vortrag im Rahmen unseres Archäologischen Kolloquiums im Sommersemester 2026 ein.

Am Montag, den 15. Juni 2026, spricht Dr. Alessandro D‘Alessio (Rom) zum Thema „The Terraced Italic Sanctuaries of the Late Republican Period: Forms and Functions“.

„The focus of the lecture is to explain and highlight some of the essential characteristics of the organisation and structure of late Republican Italic sanctuaries, which were not only to influence, but in some ways also became the base of and be constituent to subsequent Roman architectural production at least until the third century AD. From the “invention”, between the late third century and the second century BC, of opus caementicium and its direct application to vaulted systems (arches and vaults), to the acquired ability to extend, dilate, model, in other words to organise and give function to the architectural space as it had never been possible before; from the employ of the association temple-cavea-porticus/platea and of the more obviously “Hellenistic” theme of the porticus/stoa as a defined space enclosed within itself, to the gradual and eventually widespread affirmation of the so-called Theatermotiv, the solution of the arch framed by the trilithic system, which was to be so successful in the centuries to come: all these are characteristics of the great Italic sanctuaries that represent the onset of one of the most fervid periods of ancient architecture, becoming a point of reference for the splendid forums of Rome and its immense empire built by the emperors in the days to come.“
